NS 101SCIENCE OF NATURE I

Science of Nature courses aim to selectively introduce some of the basic concepts of our knowledge of nature, to look at natural laws in their interconnectivity, and to initiate an experience of the way science operates, by sharing the method of scientific thinking with students.
Science of Nature is year long science course and it is a part of Sabanci University’s core curriculum. Every Sabancı University student takes these courses during the first year of undergraduate education. The first semester of these courses is NS101 and it includes the fundamental concepts of physical science: motion of masses, dynamics of electromagnetic fields, basics of statistical physics in terms of the ideal gas, and the basic idea of quantum mechanics – wave particle duality.
The lectures on this site were recorded in Spring 2011. Mehmet Ali Alpar is teaching the course. The course book is being translated to Turkish at the moment.

Doğa ve Bilim dersleri öğrencileri doğadaki temel kavramlarla tanıştırmayı, doğa kanunlarına birbirleriyle bağlantılı olarak bakmayı ve bilimsel düşünce yöntemini öğrencilerle paylaşarak bilimin nasıl çalıştığının anlaşılmasını amaçlar.
Doğa ve Bilim, Sabancı Üniversitesi’nin çekirdek eğitim programının bir parçasıdır ve bir senelik bir derstir. Bu dersi tüm Sabancı Üniversitesi öğrencileri lisansın birinci senesinde alırlar. Dersin ilk dönemi yani NS101, kütlelerin hareketi, elektromanyetik dalgaların dinamiği, istatistiksel fizik ve kuantum mekaniğinin temel kavramlarını içerir.
Ders üniversitenin 1999'da üniversitenin kuruluşu sırasında tasarlandı. Bu sitedeki dersler Bahar 2011 döneminde Mehmet Ali Alpar tarafından verilirken kaydedildi. Ders kitabı Türkçe’ye çevrilmektedir.
